Welcome to StepFine ("we," "our," or "us"). Your privacy is important to us. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use the StepFine mobile application (the "App").

StepFine is designed with privacy in mind. We believe in keeping your health data private and secure, stored on your device where it belongs.

Data We Collect

Health Data (HealthKit)

StepFine accesses the following data from Apple Health (HealthKit):

  • Step Count: Your daily step count to track progress toward your goal
  • Walking + Running Distance: Optional data to provide richer insights

Important: We only read step data from Apple Health. We do not write data to HealthKit, and we never send your health data to our servers or third parties. All step data remains on your device.

Data Stored Locally on Your Device

StepFine stores the following information locally on your device:

  • Daily Step Goal: Your chosen target for daily steps
  • Streak Information: Current streak, best streak, and streak history
  • Unlock Status: Whether the app is locked or unlocked, and unlock period end dates
  • Reminder Settings: Your chosen reminder mode (Gentle, Normal, Aggressive) and notification preferences
  • App Preferences: Settings and customization options
  • Historical Stats: Past performance data for analytics within the app

All of this data remains exclusively on your device and is never transmitted to our servers.

Information We Do NOT Collect

StepFine does not collect:

  • Personal identification information (name, email, phone number)
  • User accounts or login credentials
  • Location data
  • Contacts, photos, or other device data unrelated to steps
  • Usage analytics or behavioral tracking
  • Advertising identifiers
  • Any data that could identify you personally

How We Use Your Information

Since all data is stored locally on your device, we do not "use" your information in the traditional sense. The data exists solely to provide the app's functionality:

  • Reading your step count from Apple Health to track daily progress
  • Calculating whether you've reached your daily goal
  • Determining lock/unlock status based on goal achievement
  • Maintaining streak statistics to motivate consistency
  • Sending local notifications based on your reminder settings
  • Displaying historical stats and trends within the app

All processing happens entirely on your device. No data leaves your device.

Data Storage and Security

Your step goal, streaks, and app data are stored using your device's secure local storage:

  • On iOS devices, data is protected by iOS encryption and sandboxing features
  • Data is encrypted at rest when your device is locked
  • The app's storage is isolated from other apps for your privacy
  • If enabled, data is included in your device's encrypted backups (iCloud or local)

Step data from Apple Health is accessed in real-time and is not duplicated or stored by StepFine beyond what is necessary for displaying your current progress.

Since we don't collect or transmit your data to any servers, there is zero risk of:

  • Server breaches or hacks
  • Unauthorized third-party access to our systems
  • Data leaks from cloud storage
  • Government or corporate data requests for your health information

Third-Party Services

StepFine does not integrate with any third-party analytics, advertising, or data collection services. We do not share your data with third parties because we do not collect it.

The app functions with only one external integration: Apple Health (HealthKit), which is a secure, on-device framework managed by Apple. Your HealthKit data is governed by Apple's privacy policies and never leaves your device through StepFine.

In-App Purchases

StepFine may offer optional in-app purchases for premium features. All purchases are processed through the Apple App Store, and we do not collect or store your payment information. Apple handles all payment processing according to their privacy policy.

We may store a local record of your purchase status (e.g., whether you've unlocked premium features) on your device, but this information is not transmitted to our servers.

Notifications

StepFine may send you local notifications based on your chosen reminder settings:

  • Reminders to walk if you're falling behind on your goal
  • Notifications about lock/unlock status
  • Motivational messages to keep you on track

These notifications are generated locally on your device. We do not use remote push notifications or track notification engagement. You can disable notifications at any time through your device settings or within the app.

Your Rights and Control

You have complete control over your data:

  • Access: All your data is accessible within the app's settings and stats screens
  • Deletion: Delete all app data by uninstalling StepFine or using the "Reset Data" option in settings
  • HealthKit Permissions: Revoke StepFine's access to Apple Health at any time through iOS Settings > Privacy > Health
  • Notifications: Disable notifications through iOS Settings or within the app
  • No Account Needed: Since there's no account, there's nothing to manage or delete from servers

Children's Privacy

StepFine is suitable for users of all ages. Since we do not collect any personal information or health data on servers, there are no special privacy concerns for children. We comply with COPPA (Children's Online Privacy Protection Act) by not collecting any personal data from users of any age.

Parents/guardians should supervise children's use of HealthKit and ensure step goals are age-appropriate.

International Users

StepFine is available worldwide. Since all data is stored locally on your device and we don't operate any servers or process any personal data, there are no international data transfer concerns. Your data stays in your country, on your device, under your control.

Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any material changes by updating the "Last Updated" date at the top of this policy and posting a notification in the app. Continued use of StepFine after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.

App Permissions

StepFine may request the following device permissions:

  • Health (HealthKit): To read your step count and walking/running distance from Apple Health
  • Notifications: To send reminders and alerts about your step progress

These permissions are used solely for core app functionality and do not enable any data collection or transmission to external servers.

Data Retention

Your step goal, streaks, and app settings are retained on your device indefinitely until you choose to delete them manually, reset the app, or uninstall it. We have no server-side retention policies because we don't store any data on servers.

GDPR Compliance (European Users)

If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA), you have certain rights under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). However, since StepFine does not collect, process, or store any personal data on servers, most GDPR provisions do not apply. Your data is entirely under your control on your device.

Health data accessed from HealthKit is processed locally on your device and is not transmitted to any data controller or processor.

CCPA Compliance (California Users)

If you are a California resident, the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) grants you specific privacy rights. Since we do not collect or sell personal information, CCPA's main provisions do not apply to StepFine. We do not sell your personal information or health data because we do not collect it.
